The Scientia Review is an extension of the scientific and technical writing course at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science, a public secondary school of excellence based at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). At Mass Academy, we teach writing as an important academic skill. Academy students learn to write what they mean and mean what they write, using the right number of carefully chosen words. Whether composing a laboratory methodology, an abstract for a research paper, or an observation of an autumn forest, students strive for a style of prose that is appropriate to both the genre and audience. Students also write science e-books for children in collaboration with museums in Massachusetts, and The Scientia Review provides a venue for sharing these resources.
Through The Scientia Review, we hope to encourage the teaching of scientific and technical writing at the secondary level, particularly at member schools of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (NCSMSSST).
